⚠︎ Two things families often miss

The financial aid application (SSS by NAIS, code 9150) must be submitted together with the application for admission — not after a decision. And once a child is accepted, the enrollment fee must be paid within one week; APIS states that all school fees, including tuition and boarding fees, are non-refundable.

Tuition and financial aid

  • Day tuition 2026–27: Elementary (Grades 3–4) $22,000; Middle School (Grades 5–8) $25,500; High School (Grades 9–12) $27,800.
  • Boarding 2026–27: Middle School 7-day $68,800, 5-day $54,800; High School 7-day $70,000, 5-day $56,800.
  • Fees: application $50; non-refundable enrollment fee $1,000 (day) or $2,500 (boarding); first-year boarding deposit $300; English as an Additional Language (EAL) / Learning Center fee $3,150, only for students who need it; medical insurance $1,850, required for international students.
  • For 2026–27, payment was due in full by July 1, 2026, or in two semester payments (July 1 and Dec. 1, 2026) with a 5% service fee. Middle and high school students buy their own laptop or tablet.
  • Financial aid is need-based, through SSS by NAIS (code 9150), submitted with the application. The share of families on aid is not published.

Applying from outside Hawaiʻi

  • F-1 visa and I-20: international students apply for an F-1 student visa. Families send a passport copy and a bank statement, and APIS issues the Form I-20.
  • Boarding: 5-day or 7-day, two students per room, faculty dorm parents, evening study hall and 24/7 security.
  • English: no TOEFL or other test is required to apply. The EAL program screens English proficiency and places students; it costs $3,150 for students who need it. Medical insurance ($1,850) is required for international students.
  • The interview can be done online, so families can apply before coming to Hawaiʻi.
  • Short-term option: the “Experience APIS Hawaiʻi” program lets students attend as temporary students. The website says one to four weeks; a school brochure says 1 to 8 weeks or more, Grades 3–12 — confirm the length with the school.
  • APIS also has a campus in Seoul, South Korea (apis.org); this page covers only the Hawaiʻi campus.

How Academia Tutor School can help

Our Private School Entrance Exam Prep program prepares children for the parts of admission that are hard to practice at home: interviews like APIS’s, on campus or online, and the reading, writing and math skills that report cards and recommendations reflect. Lessons run Monday to Friday after school, private or in groups of up to five. In 2026, our students were admitted to 23 schools.

No tutoring program can promise admission, and we do not. Our goal is for your child to walk in calm and ready to show who they are.
